The Robert Mondavi Institute (RMI) for Wine and Food Science was established with a philanthropic gift of $25 million from Robert Mondavi in 2001. It consists of a state-of-the-art academic complex of three buildings and a LEED Platinum certified winery, brewery and food and milk processing laboratory which opened in January 2011. It is the only facility of its kind in the world.
The academic complex houses the departments of Food Science and Technology and Viticulture and Enology, the RMI administrative offices, the UC Davis Olive Center, state-of-the-art sensory facilities and a food innovation kitchen. The entire complex surrounds the Good Life Garden, a one-acre, edible plot featuring organic and sustainably-grown vegetables, herbs and flowers.
Tours are offered Monday through Friday during our regular business hours from 8:00AM - 12:00PM and 1:00PM - 5:00PM, excluding holidays for individuals and groups that have an interest in our beautiful facilities, educational opportunities and public outreach activities. General tours, lasting 45 to 75 minutes, will be guided by students. Specialized tours will be led by senior faculty and staff. Tastings can be also be arranged if booked well in advance.
Registration is required for general and specialized tours. Please use the request form below and please allow five business days for processing. Teaching is a priority at the Robert Mondavi Institute, and we will do our best to accommodate all requests that do not impact courses.
