Giving
With your help, UC Davis is taking its food and wine programs to the next level of excellence and helping industries in those vital sectors prepare for future challenges.
Construction of the Academic Buildings for the Department of Viticulture and Enology and the Department of Food Science and Technology was funded through the generous support of Robert Mondavi, the people of the state of California, who approved the K - Higher Education Bond Act of 2004 and UC Davis. The Academic Buildings and Sensory Center opened their doors in the fall of 2008.
The August A. Busch III Brewing and Food Science Laboratory and the Teaching and Research Winery are now under construction and designed to meet the US Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification, the highest level and first such building at UC Davis. The brewery, food science lab and winery will complete the Institute's complex of research and teaching facilities. These facilities are entirely funded by gifts from the donors listed below with the fundraising continuing to equip the new food science laboratory and winery. These buildings will serve as models of efficiency for the industry and achieve LEED Platinum status. Generous donors from the wine industry have made leadership gifts to make these upgrades to the original plans possible.
We would like to thank our generous private donors*:

Facility Naming Opportunities
Naming opportunities enable UC Davis to appropriately and publicly recognize the generosity and commitment of donors to the RMI vision. Donors may elect to have their name — or the name of someone they may designate — inscribed on a plaque adjacent to a particular room or within a special indoor or outdoor space. Numerous naming opportunities are available for individuals, families, corporations and foundations. Selected opportunities include:
- Academic Building
At 129,000 square-feet, these three buildings house the Departments of Viticulture and Enology and Food Science and Technology. They feature classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices and public education spaces. There are still many significant and highly-visible naming opportunities in these buildings including:

This facility will provide advanced examples of winery systems in our teaching, precise fermentation control in our research and showcase for industry and the public to observe and visit. The Winery presents a unique opportunity for those who are passionate about wine to partner with the department in support of its long-standing tradition of excellence in teaching, scientific inquiry and industry service.
